Cover letter help!

Hello, all!

I'm writing a cover letter to apply for an internship in a communications/editorial/publishing position. In my cover letter, I will tell them what I study, what I will bring to the team...I will tell them the skills I can bring, but I also want to tell them I will bring enthusiasm and a keen desire to learn.

Should I also said that I will also bring a big smile everyday?

If I read this on a cover letter, it would stand out to me. I'm googling around, and some people have some they promise to "make a cracking cup of tea" under the same mindset that it's the truth, but also it would stand out to someone reading the resume. Now, I don't make a cracking cup of tea, but I do smile a lot.

What do you think? Is it worth putting myself out there with something like promising a grin in the hopes that a little bit of personality comes through an otherwise dense resume, or should I stick to the safer options?

As an employer what would you think? What would your current employer think? :)

My older sister is currently next to me, and she used to hire for various companies, so this is the gist of her opinion:

'It really depends on the industry. I don't know anything about the culture of communications, but if it's a laid-back, friendly environment (like working in a pub), then go for it! They look at tonnnnnes of cover letters, so anything that shows personality or just stands out is cool beans! It won't get you in on itself, but it'll certainly lend support if they already like your personality!' :)

I knew there'd be a legend around here ;)

Thanks!
