KuruTogas are very good pencils for their price. I honestly recommend everyone to pick up one as they are very affordable and write fantastically.

I personally prefer the plastic KuruTogas over the metal ones mainly because they are lighter (but not too light) and they have a more comfortable grip.

Pentel sharp is also a very good mechanical pencil, they are used by artists because of one main reason: they provide neat lines.

In terms of pencil lead, I really like Ain Stein lead because they don't smudge as easily and are really cheap.

Yeah. Currently using Ain Stein but for me they feel a bit rough. Heard the Uni Nano Dia leads were smoother so I got some on the way :) Already tried last year but they ran out :(

My personal favourite is the Pilot Super Grip (Medium is good for smooth writing, Fine is when you don't want it to become too messy) as it is quite light  ;D

(Got 3 boxes of refills...  :o)
Life is weird and crazy as heck but what can you do?

I would give the bic cristal pens an 11/10 if i could. Medium ball point, super smooth, everything you could ask for in a pen.

I even visited the bic head office in melb once solely to thank them for blessing this world with such a glorious pen.

My personal favourite mechanical pencil is the Pilot Uni Alpha Gel Slim Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm. Very lightweight, very soft

Or get the Pilot Uni Alpha-gel Shaker Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm which is just a slightly larger version, IT IS EXTREMELY SOFT (I personally prefer the slim one)

Was never a fan of mechanical pencils until I discovered these. 10/10 would recommend

This is slightly off-topic, but I have always held a pen (when writing) with four fingers, instead of the standard three.

I've been told it's weird, and I've never really found anyone else that does this - are there others?

I use the super-cheap bic pens you buy in a pack of like 12. It's the only pen that I can actually write legibly with. I love that it can grip onto the page, because once we lose friction on the paper, my hand-writing becomes super loopy and super confusing. So these magnificent beasts help me make my writing readable <3

EDIT: misread a post lol

As in like, with the pen resting on your ring finger? I do this. It's almost like a whole hand grip on my pen - a closed web space or something. My thumb ends up locking the pen into a small space, rather than just gripping the pen grip :P

Never could manage any other way to hold my pen or pencil though, despite my teachers' best attempts

I don't see how that's weird at all, as long as you're comfortable then it's fine. I hold my pen with the usual 3 fingers but I hold chopsticks in a very weird way and have been called out by friends many times lol. (My way of using chopsticks actually allow me to grab more things at once). I have also seen many people use 4 fingers to hold a pen and I think it's totally normal (I've even seen a guy hold it with 5 fingers). So yeah, holding a pen with 4 fingers is totally natural. The only con I can see is that triangular-barreled pens will probably feel very weird since they are designed for 3 fingers.  :P

YES EXACTLY!!

Good to see I have found some fellow outcasts in the world of pen gripping - thank you K888 and 13cheungjn1!

I'm never been sure if it hurts or helps my writing. I'm a very fast writer (when I need to be) but I've never done it any other way, so I don't know if I would be quicker (or neater) if I held it 'normally'.

I've tried writing with only 3 fingers and my handwriting just becomes illegible :P
