DEFINITION

Core religious beliefs are those that are ‘central’ in a specific religious tradition from
which other noncore
beliefs can be directly or indirectly derived from. The 'core'
religious beliefs of any religious tradition are the theological foundation upon which that
tradition establishes its uniqueness.*Core beliefs are the ones that a religious tradition
holds as those without which the tradition would not exist and would have no purpose,
that is, the whole belief system of that religious tradition would fall apart, and thus that
religious tradition would cease to exist in its purest form.
