Subject Selections

Hi!

I'm currently a year 11 student studying 3/4 philosophy, 1/2 english, methods, chemistry, psychology and media.

I'm already planning to drop 1/2 media as I find it boring and tedious. I was considering studying a subject through DECV but none of the subjects I'm interested in offer the units 1/2 course. Should I aim to endure media and simply do the bare minimum or see if I can get a spare to focus on my other subjects? (I should mention that I'm currently using it as a class to complete work from other subjects...)

Any help or opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Is there a reason you can't move to another 1/2 subject at your school? Are you planning on picking up another 3/4 next year? If your school does not offer 1/2 of the subject you want to pick up or you are not planning on picking up another subject then I would suggest seeing if you can get a spare. If you cannot then your options would either be keep doing what you are doing or try and transfer into a 1/2 that you may enjoy more (even if you have no intention of doing 3/4).

I can transfer into another subject offered at my school for semester two. The only problem is that there is limited range and none of them are of any interest to me. I am planning on picking up either 3/4 Classical Studies/Extended Investigation or undertaking UMEP (philosophy) next year. Obviously there's no 1/2 (or equivalent) for Extended Investigation so I'm more or less just waiting for year 12. I would like to study Classical Studies but units 1/2 aren't offered at my school or DECV.

Yeah I would definitely try and get a spare then. If they won't let you have one, try talking to your media teacher and asking what the minimum amount of work you need to do is and if they will allow you to treat it as a spare so long as you have done that work, given you are already doing other classes work I assume your teacher won't mind too much.

If you do the minimum work at least you will have an S just in case you change your mind and decide that you do want to do 3/4 (although that sounds unlikely).

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I'm not too worried about receiving an S considering it's a relatively easy subject. I believe the teacher is already somewhat aware of my disinterest so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to tell her that, lol.
