I was wondering what external topics people refer to in their Encountering Conflict context.
Like for The Crucible, I often link to McCarthyism
and for The Secret River Mabo.

Does anyone have any others they could share?

the topics you choose don't have to relate to the book or play you intend to write on at all. Make a list of important conflicting opinions experinced within our society and relate them to conflict, not your text. There's no point linking everything to your chosen text, when it is only meant to be used as a base to build upon the ideas of your context. Back to the topic, I use stuff like Gandhi's and Rosa Parks' methods of resolution to confliict. A series of anecdotes at the types of conflicts we encounter everyday, and how we resolve them. Just some basic stuff. Afterall conflict is everywhere.

For The Crucible, and this is a bit of a stretch at times, I compared Proctor's sacrifice to Jesus. It's dangerous if you get an atheist for a marker but you at least know for sure your example will be known.
2008 - Revolutions (35 raw)
2009 - Further (48), Business (46), English (41), Literature (38), Methods (31)

Holy crap 97.20!!!!!!!
