What is this for? does it concern us VCE students?
No, not at all. It’s for the selective examination happening in June for selective schools in Victoria. Concerns year 8s mostly

We only have to write one writing test this year, persuasive or creative.

And we have like 40 minutes for only ONE writing test, 30 minutes writing and 10 minutes planning.
The rest is same.

A series of five tests form the selective entry high school examination:
• verbal reasoning
• numerical reasoning
• persuasive or creative written expression
• reading comprehension
• mathematics.

Four of the tests are multiple-choice, each run for 30 minutes in length and do not include reading time. The writing test is 30 minutes in duration, plus an additional 10 minutes of planning time. Normally, a short 15-minute break is taken after the completion of the writing test.

if only they changed the time limit for the other tests too lol

Is this true??
If it is then why are professional coaching industries still coaching students with the traditional format?
I am not saying that this is false information but if this was true then shouldnt the professional coaching colleges know about this too??
Moreover, just 1 writing piece will not make things difficult at all as the 15 minute time limit seperates the fast and well-structured essays from the slow and poor essays.

Most ‘professional coaching colleges’ don’t stay updated with the current system. It is easy to overestimate how ‘professional’ such places really are. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vast majority haven’t even heard about the change. Make sure that you recognise whether your money would be best spent elsewhere.

No, Nossal gives their own test, each school in year 10 give their own test.
Good luck

I’m assuming that they’re changing it to 30 minutes now because they’re looking for quality work. The examiners want to see the best quality you can provide, and increasing the time given will allow the slow, yet talented writers to shine. Not that swift writers don’t have a chance though; they just have more time to think about their phrasing and structuring.

The information is most likely true because it is on the offical Selective Schools page on the Victorian education website. I’m trying out this year for Year Nine as well. Fingers crossed I’ll get in, but if I don’t, I’m just grateful that I’ve had the experience. :)
