Should I do the 7th subject?

Hi,
I'm currently in year 11 and by the end of this year, I'll complete Math Methods and Chinese which means I only have 4 subjects left for year12.
Because I'm in a Christian school that religion and society is a compulsory subject but I'm not Christian and I'm not interested in this subject at all.
I'm wondering if I could pick another subject or extention program in yr12 and just get a pass in religion by the end of VCE so I don't have to worry much about it and get a subject that I'm capable of doing well for my atar score.
Could anyone give me some advice? I'm really lost.
Thx.
(btw, religion is compulsory in my school, will it be put in top2 of my top4 subjects just like how English does for atar calculation?)

Hey!
Welcome to AN :)

Normally I'd advise against doing a 7th subject, however in your case it's a bit different. I don't think it'd necessarily be a bad idea depending on a few things:
-Is your school going to give you a hard time for doing the bare minimum in religion?
-What is the bare minimum? Will you only be doing work in class? If not, how much time out of class will you have to spend on it? Are you going to get heaps of compulsory homework?
-Is there another subject you want to do?

Obviously none of us can decide for you, but I think it'd be worth considering the above points. Providing that you can get away with not putting much time in it, and there's another subject you want to do, then I'd say go for it :)

(btw, religion is compulsory in my school, will it be put in top2 of my top4 subjects just like how English does for atar calculation?)
Nope.

Thanks for the advice.
I haven't talked to the teacher yet about next year work and all sorts of stuff cuz I just started the subject. But I'll do so if I decide to pick another subject as a backup. Would I fail vce if I failed in unit 3&4 for religion?  :'( I'm really bad at it.
And if I decide to pick the 7th I would probably choose between FM and Biology or choose an extension program as a challenge.

Nope. I sort of failed Englang and still passed VCE.

The only issue you'll potentially have if you fail Religion will be from your school. It'd probably be a good idea to ask them what the consequences of failing it are. VCAA doesn't care if you fail it :)
