Hi there,
I was wondering if I could ask for help as to how to answer Mod A questions based on the poetry by Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.
Due to the interpersonal relationship of the poets and the heavy-sided contextual understandings attached to the poems, when I write an essay, should it be written thematically, then add in the context part after analysis of quotes?
I'm just having trouble in structuring it effectively to represent a shared theme/value explored by the composers differently, then where to put in the contextual understanding of it. (This probably wasn't clear soz).
Thank you!! ~ Carmen
Heyy, I study Plath and Hughes too and I agree; the structure is more confusing than other Module A options. Personally, I thematically is the best way to go (I.e ideas both Plath and Hughes "converse" on in their poems). Some really good themes you can talk about that come up in almost every poem is:
- Female authority
- Mental anguish
-Consciousness
-Blame
-Guilt
-Biography
Then you would weave context throughout.
For Example:
P1: Female authority:
- concept statement on the theme
-introduced Plath's poem and what she is saying on this
-quote
-technique
-effect
-contextual link as to WHY she is saying this
-introduce Hughes and what he is saying on this point
quote
-technique
-effect
-contextual link as to WHY she is saying this
REPEAT
- LINK: what do we learn from studying them in conjunction?
Hope this helps
