Hello
Im doing the selective test next year and have started James ann but especially for maths have just been lost for the past two weeks
I have found the teaching inneffective and hard so i have been wondering whether just to self learn or go to another tutor and if i self learn do you have any books or methods.
THANKS
Hi there!
Welcome to the forums.
I'm actually sitting the Victorian Selective Schools exam this sunday, and have been attending james an since the start of the year.
I would pick the option that helps me learn most effectively. However, learning effectively does not mean working less often or less hard. However, I wouldn't pick a tutoring institution if I knew that taking a program that helped me learned more effectively also meant I was not being trained for the exam in an adequate manner (learning content but not doing practice exams etc..)
Self-studying for an exam often leads to procrastinating the entire year and then cramming during the final few weeks. You know whether you are a diligent self-studier or not. For instance, how easy it is to self-study ultimately depends on how committed you can be to a particular study schedule.
But imo I would still stay at James an as the practice tests the provide are extremely useful, and I would self study the content from the practice tests they provide. When I started james an originally I was a struggler, I felt as if they were moving at too quick of a pace. However, the practice tests motivated me to self study, and aided me as to what I should study. Without them I honestly wouldn't be as confident as I am today.
