I've been looking at a few uni subjects lately and I've seen that you need prerequisites for some of them.  No problem thus far.  But where "co-requisite" subjects are concerned is this usually recommended, especially for Maths subjects?

Or would it be better to better to complete the prerequisite(s) and then go on from there?

Thanks.  But I was just wondering from current uni students if it was recommended to take a unit "concurrently" with another or if it would be better to complete the prerequisites.

Usually, its better to complete the prerequisites.

Right now, Im trying to get approval on some subjects where I don't have prerequisites but willing to do the prereqs needed concurrently with those subjects. For me to do subjects without prereqs, I have been told I have to perform well in subjects that are related to the subject that I don't have prereqs for.

Oh ok.  So basically, course advisors (if that's what you call them) recommend you do the prerequisites rather than do them concurrently with other subjects, right?

Although I would imagine you would have to work really hard since you haven't got the background.

Course advisers indeed recommend you to do the prerequisites. The only person who can let you do a subject without prerequisites is the subject coordinator in charge. You have to contact the person in charge and see what they say about doing the subject cocurrently with other subjects etc.

And yes, you would usually have to work really hard to avoid failing if you don't have the background - thats why they usually only allow high performing students to do subjects without prerequsities
