Exam bets?

Do you find that if you make bets with your mates about who will win in what you perform better because you have a source of motivation; or is this just plain wrong, showing off and unhelpful?
Personally I love the challenge; 3 dollars on the line :P

Haha, that's funny... Personally I have never bet on exams, though I doubt my friends would bet against me...

Its the motivation to not have to pay x amount of dollars rather than the motivation to win x amount of dollars that powers me. I would only put money on the line if I was sure I was going to win.

This post says a lot about me.

I had a bet about something with a friend, in which he was betting I'd succeed, and I was adamant that I wouldn't. I lost, so I now owe him waffles.

I don't see the point in formalising it into a bet... 3 dollars is hardly going to make me study any harder than wanting to get top in my class will make me, with out without an actual bet

What me and my friends thought of in year 11 was to get like 20 of us and chuck in $5 each. Whoever got the highest ENTER would keep the pot. Too bad I forgot to bring that idea up again =/

ive made a few bets, none of them end up being serious tho :P good thing too cos i loose most of the time

i dont think its gonna make u do any better, ur most likely gonna study the same amount anyway since u should regard getting a high ATAR or mark higher than a few bucks anyway

i reckon bets dont really work for the long term (like $100 for the best enter). But betting short term is better. say $10 pp for whoever gets the best SAC score.
