Would anybody be able to give an indication of the content and difficulty of advanced physics and accelerated maths 1 and 2?
And what is the "Logic: Language and communication" breadth course like?

I can tell you about Advanced Physics. It is basically like normal physics, but it goes further into the content and is quite a fast paced subject.

Physics Advanced 1 goes through: chapters 1 - 14, 20 - 25 & 37. Chapters 1 - 14 is all about classical physics you see in VCE but extended and you are also introduced to non-uniform circular motion, centre of mass, torque, etc. 20 - 25 is all about optics and a lot of it you won't have seen in VCE and 37 is special relativity where also a lot of this you won't have seen.

Physics Advanced 2 goes through: chapters 15 - 19, 25 - 36 & 38 - 43. A lot of this stuff is not seen in VCE. Chapters 15 - 19 talk about fluid statics, dynamics and also thermal physics ( you may have touched a bit of this in VCE chemistry), 25 - 36 goes through electromagnetism (you would only have touched a tiny bit of magnetism in VCE physics) & 38 - 43 touches on modern physics such as quantum physics, atomic physics and nuclear physics.

All that I know about accelerated maths is that it's a harder version of calc 2 and linear algebra, it also includes real analysis in the two so you complete three maths subjects in two. So it frees an extra spot for another subject in second year.

2009 - 2011: Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Physics)

2012 - 2014: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics/Mathematical Physics)

2016 - 2018: Master of Engineering (Civil)

Semester 1:[/b] Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Risk Analysis, Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering

Semester 2:[/b] Earth Processes for Engineering, Engineering Materials, Structural Theory and Design, Systems Modelling and Design

If you did well in Physics and Specialist, (at least greater than 38), then you should definitely pick the advanced subjects. You might enjoy the extra challenge and it should give you an added advantage in later years

Yeah if you got >35 for physics and specialist maths, then you should definately do advanced physics (I survived with a 79% for physics advanced 1 & 76% for physics advanced 2).
