Why did the Cut offs / clearly in's in BComm at UOM in 2010 go down from 95.2 to 94.7 or something?

And an explanation for the jump in Biomed?

According to VTAC, in the 2008/09 selection cycle 1456 people put commerce as their 1st preference. This compares to 1261 in the 2009/2010 cylce. This decrease in demand may have caused the clearly-in to fall
Biomed applications went from 632 in 2008/09 cycle to 901 in the 2009/10 cycle. Could explain the increase

commerce is 94.80

i explained this before for biomed:

the new graduate medicine 'Doctor of Medicine' course is opening in 2011 and the guaranteed scheme for this is just opened too, the Doctor of Medicine course is going to be considered one of the most prestigious medicine courses in australia/the world. the increase of biomed places suggests this, since most people who would have gone through undergrad med at melbourne are now forced to go into grad med unless they go interstate or get into monash.

The guaranteed entry/graduate med program at Melbourne wouldn't have much to do with it as it existed in previous years which experienced no such jump in ENTER requirements.

?
it's first intake is 2011, and the graduate scheme for it just started this year..
students last intake for the undergrad med at melb was 2008, and not much info. was even released about the graduate med program well into 2009... where people learnt about it and decided to do biomed/science for graduate med :p

There was no intake for undergraduate med at Melbourne last year either and information about the graduate program has been around for about two years or more.  People entered biomed in 2007 with the intention of pursuing the graduate program when they graduate in 2010 and start in 2011.

So really nothing changed this year on that front.

umm well in 2007 and 2008 there was undergrad med at melbourne... clearly all those who wanted to do med in the later years could not do so through undergrad med and had to find other means (grad med)
yes there has been word of a graduate med at melbourne, but there was barely any info about it until a bit into 2009, as i was interested in looking into it, but there was not much info available before then.

Yes, but 2008 intake was for people who did year 12 in 2007.  People who did year 12 in 2008 weren't able to apply for undergrad med at melbourne, yet the cut off did not rise in 2009.

yes but due to the lack of knowledge available in 2008 for people about the med graduate program and back in 2008 there was no guaranteed entry- this is new, especially the 99.00 for full-fee, which will remain at 99.00 for two years (2009 and 2010 graduates from school) until it is raised to 99.50 (subject to approval early 2010). the full information for the Doctor of medicine was released only late in 2009

That's what I'm saying though, this guaranteed entry thing isn't new this year.

http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,8786.0.html

In this thread people were talking about it in 2008, unless they're from the future XD

haha.
sorry i was told by them that it was new, i think they must have confused me in some way.

still if you read the thread there is much negativity towards the melbourne model, now since the melbourne model is going to be the only possible route to anything, it is started to be accepted more and not so 'new'.

i stand by what i said, people are more aware of the guaranteed entry and it's advantage over going elsewhere, also the doctor of medicine's new, full and correct information (released ~december 2009 so it no longer says "subject to approval" everywhere and when you ask them questions they can finally answer them ) is released, people are more inclined to go towards it.

it's still shocking that the biomed enter raised up towards ~98.
i wonder if this will change now that the later years (2011 entry) require methods. perhaps it will go down slightly? i also think it will go down once again when in 2012 entry, as they are making the full-fee guarantee for med 99.50 (again, subject to approval)

we'll have to see :p

Yeah, I agree with you there as well.  I think a bit of the shock has worn off with the Melbourne Model, people are a bit less wary of it XD

Hrm, not sure if methods will affect things as I presume most people would have done methods anyway.  I did hear that they're lowering the chem prereq score too...

oh yeah i forgot about that.
this girl i know got the right enter but got 34 in chem so didn't get in.

so yeah that'd balance out with methods and chem. so it's fine actually :p

people are resistant to change, but they'll learn to love parts of it :D
