Diode switch-on voltage

When the diode reaches the switch on voltage of 0.7V, if we pump more volts into it will it use all of it? Or will it be passed off as heat or something like that?

i realize it might be a dumb question just need a bit of clarification

It'll probably increase slightly, but it's so small that it can be ignored in most calculations. Most of the voltage drop will occur in other parts of the circuit.

i am not pretty sure, but i think voltage greater than the switch on voltage...
the current will be infinity, thus as you said i think it will heat up
correct me if i am wrong ..   ;)
