maths methods urgent cry for help

ok i'm really freaked out about my methods 3/4 this yr. I'm really hoping to get over 25 raw. These are approx my sac scores over the yr so far. 27/45- 60%,  26/40- 65%, the 3rd one was 48%. If I continue to get around 50-60% and around that for the exam, would I still be able to get a 25 raw? ....

depends on the year. If it's a hard exam, then definitely, if it's an easy paper, mabey not.....

I was getting scores like you did throughout the year -- C's and D's, and one E, though I did get an A but it didn't count for as much cause the rest of the class did pretty well too in that sac. I averaged about a C. Long story short I studied my butt off for the end of year exam, got B B+ B+ and a 32, which I was, quite literally, over the moon with cause like you, I was expecting a score in the 20s. In other words, no, it's quite possible.

It all comes down to the finals. Do plenty of practice exam and you'll break that mark easy : )

ah crap.. i'm doing worse in my sacs than you, the best i can hope for is a 30 isn't it?

At the end of the day, your study score depends on a few factors ranked in importance:

1) Your personal exam mark
2) The strength of your cohort
3) Your position in your cohort
4) The exam mark of the person ranked #1 in your cohort

The only thing you have control over is 1, 3 and to a certain extent 4. Just work on consolidating all of your knowledge, and preparing for the final exam - the rest will most likely fall into place.

How true does the end of year exam importance thing hold? I've always wondered that and just exactly how much SACs matter if at all, i know if you got A's itd boost it up but say you did dismal and pretty much failed all the SACs in any subject all year but nailed the exam what would happen? (I know a guy who got 6/91 on our last calculus SAC but almost 3/4ths of every methods class failed) (I used to think sacs didnt matter for much at all but people here say they do again... seems to be a cycle)

My teacher told me that exams are the most important since they are external exams and that, you're being tested along with the rest of the state. Depending on the marks you get in your exam, will determine if your sacs will get scaled up or not. Coz in our school, our methods sac are so hard that it even made me depressed one time. She then told me that if she gave us an easy exam, all of us can probably pull up an A+ (there's only 6 of us in methods, but we're a strong cohort) or she can just give us an A in every sacs but in the end of the year during exams, if we get lower marks, there is a tendency that our sac marks will get lowered.

Oh yeah, this is a Year 11 and 12 only campus with like 500ish students... so theres like 3 or 4 methods classes so its a widespread for the cohort but apart from a few stars id say it was pretty average but that last calculus sac was hard apparently and heaps of people failed so i just dont know.... anyway i guess theres no use dwelling on the past even if it matters heaps... you cant change it.. .just focus on the exams in the future..

Okay, so unless there's been some confusion, your sac marks don't actually matter - just your ranking.

If everyone in your cohort fails the sacs, and then they do exceptionally well in the finals, your Sac marks are standardized to match the exam score, and you can still get an A+ for sacs. Conversely, everyone in your class might be get high 90s because the tests are really easy, and then come exam time, under-perform, and the Sac marks drop below B.

Seeing as VCAA ends up standardising everything, you don't need to worry about your marks - just your relative position in the class, as your Sac marks are judged based on the performance of the #1 rank in your cohort.

I mean if you have a crappy ranking but a good exam kind of thing
