Double degree lower than Single degree??

Yo,

Recently i went to search for some Law subjects in different University and i found that Bachelor of Law requires 99 while Law/Arts need 98. Furthermore, Law at La Trobe requires 94 but Law/Psychology requires 93.10.

Isn't double degree just adding an extra Bachelor? Why does it require less enter score?
It's all over now..

the ENTER score required for entry into a degree depends on the demand for that course, and so a higher ENTER indicates that it is in more demand, not that it has an extra degree with it..
basically Law was more in demand that year, then Law/other degree was..

Not everyone wants to have the extra degree on because they don't want to waste time/pay for it/focus more on the law component itself etc. So yes, it's all about demand really.

But yeah, it is pretty weird though. If you got into Law/Psychology, you could really easily just drop Psychology. Some unis have it so that the ATAR for double degrees is the same as the ATAR for the highest singe degree. For example, if Law was 99, Arts was 85, Arts/Law would be 99.

Always wondered why it didn't work like that. And yeh, good point about being able to just drop it. If the gap between the two degrees is that big, I have a feeling some people who wanted to get into straight Law and couldn't didn't put down law double degrees as well. Might not necessarily be true, but it feels that way to me.

According to the VTAC site, only 3 people got accepted into the Bachelor of Law at Monash. There is some reason Monash does this, maybe because Law is a difficult course and so there is a high drop out rate? (Random guess) In my opinion it would be better to do a double degree with Law than just Law so you can see if you really like it, then just drop the non-law bit

Maybe it's because few people actually want to do straight law?

Yeah most people in law are doing combined degrees, I only have the one friend who's doing straight law. There is a high drop-out/fail rate and that's why Monash has so many law students (cos half will be gone by 4th year).
