Moving from 1/2 Literature to 3/4 English

Hey guys, I did Lit as my only English subject this year, and I'm swapping over to English for next year. I realise that I'll have to approach essay writing quite differently to Lit essays. Have you got any advice/crash course on the structure of essays for English SACs/exams, or any other advice that you can give me?
Cheers.

English essays are a watered down version of a views and values essay. A language analysis can be very similar to a passage analysis at times. If you do an imaginative piece for context in English then this is very similar to the creative SAC in lit.

Personally, I find english a lot easier. You should be fine.

The transition isn't that bad, and you should be fine - just read some of the sample pieces in the sticky thread.

Yeah you should move fine. I'm leaving Literature this year, but I was already doing English and English Language. I couldn't stand Lit by the end, was far too complex for me.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

hi funkyducky!
i did both literature and english as well - literature actually comes in quite handy for language analysis in english. In literature you go into so much detail analysing novels so when you come to articles in english, it's really quite simple with your additional skills :) you're pretty much one step ahead of everyone else.
also, english isn't as difficult as literature when it comes to how to approach texts and writing. As you would know with literature, you pretty much know the books back to front with all the meanings, ideas and symbols whereas english only slightly goes into that type of detail. I think you should be fine :)

You are at an advantage as an ex Lit student. Exploit your knowledge of devices that an author uses to convey a message in Text Response and even Language Analysis. You probably also have a creative advantage which you can use in Creating and Presenting. You'll be fine :)
