Do you mean back titration vs direct titration?
Or do you mean redox titration vs acid base titration?

I think she means redox vs acid base?

i'm not quite sure myself :S

could you please explain both in depth?

Since in some acid base reactions, a sharp end point isn't produced so back titration is needed. Back titration is when you add excess of an acid/base, then you direct titrate it to see how much is in excess. By knowing how much is in excess we know how much reacted. n(reacted)=n(added)-n(excess)

Acid base vs redox titration evolves around the same concepts but obviously acid base uses acid base reactions and redox uses redox reactions. Redox however doesn't need indicator as the reaction often gives clues as to when the reaction is complete (colour change)

I have no idea to be honest.
I am definite it is not direct vs back and not acid vs redox, because I am aware of the differences between each in both cases, but in the VCAA study design it says 'Simple titration' then it later says 'Acid-base titration' as separate things?

The study design is comparing simple and back titrations.. then comparing acid-base and redox titrations. This means that Acid-base and redox can either be simple or back titrations. Simple titration is NOT back titrations. Does that make sense?
