some help...

just completing my holiday homework and im not sure if anyone can help me but i thought id be able to ask...

the question was read through the social-ecological model? (i hope people no of this :S. It included things like the individual, social environment, physical environment, policy ) and then modify a circular diagram to include relevant key words...
and then it says can you apply the model to staff and students at our school?

this was my answer....

To apply this to students and staff at ‘blah blah school,’ would include a variety of factors to help encourage an individual to participate in physical activity. By looking at the physical environment factors and having good access to facilities and good quality facilities, combined with motivational teachers and parents from the social environment an individual even with a low level of skill and motivation should be encouraged to take part in physical activity. By combining the above factors with the education policy that encourages and engages individuals to participate in physical activity, the school should be able to encourage individuals to participate in physical activity.....

My question is that a correct way to answer that question if not any help?

i hope there is someone out there who knows what i am talking about :)

It's new to the study design, but the 'social ecological model' appears to just be the culmination of intervention strategies to increase PA in the workplace, school and community in the form of changes to the physical environment, policy, and social alterations.

Your answer appears to be correct. For another example, say the workplace; to increase physical activity at a workplace you could install shower blocks/change rooms to encourage active transport (physical environment), then as a result make a policy of reducing health insurance for fit and healthy employees (policy), and by doing this, lunchtime exercise groups/competitions can be created (social).

I think this is an example of applying the social ecological model.

Yes your answer is good. The main thing to improve on is looking at things on the intrapersonal/individual level. Strategies such as counselling can be used here.

No worries :) If you haven't yet read it, there is a VCAA paper on the model which can be found here (.doc alert): http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/physicaledu/socialecologicalmodelandphysicalactivity.doc
