Basically just write an essay, to be honest.  Once you've done that, reframe the introduction so that it starts a bit broadly (eg. "Across Year of Wonders, one of the most striking aspects of Geraldine Brooks' writing is blah blah blah) and read it all out loud, changing things that sound awkward so that they're a bit more casual.

Do you think using a video would be useful?

oh and if its meant to be like an essay, does that mean I cannot begin with something interesting, like a quote or question aimed at the audience?

Hundreds of people actually start essays like that, I always do for Context. :3

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
