instumental drawings?

hi guys :)

from what i understand of the unit 3 folio, we have to complete at least one each of the instrumental drawings
- one-point perspective
- two-point perspective
- isometric
- planometric
- oblique
- orthogonal (dimentioned and scaled)

i was totally at zero ideas on what kind of things i should design for unit 3, and was looking through last years top designs winners and saw someone had designed a bag.
how do you complete instumental drawings (especially an orthogonal one) for something that had such an organic shape rather than being based from geometric shapes?

thanks :)

Good question...uh...my teacher last yr said that you should focus mainly on '3D' objects for unit 3 cos it will be easier to draw and then do "more flat/ 2D" designs in Unit 4.
But...if you do want to do something "more 2D and more organic in shape and less 3D" for Unit 3, then the orthogonal will be harder to complete since the width will hardly be present.

That list is pretty big..

The criterai for drawing methods does not actually require you to do all of those. You should simply dsiplay a good knowledge of a vareity of drawing systems including both isntrumental and free hand drawing techniques.

Two - point persepective would be definitely necassary
Orthogonal is also a standard inclusion

Planometric and other drawing methods should be used throughout the folio and not just for the final presentations.

"free hand orthogonals" can be used within the folio, they are totally acceptable. Only the final presentation orthogonals have to be very very strict and perfect.

Orthogonal drawings for something such as a bag or rectangular shaped things are not hard as such but they aren't going to be like something of a bedroom design for example. Since it will likely just be the top of the bag (rectangle with handle), front (basic shape of bag) and the right hand side also the basic shape.

All in all if you are unsure don't be afraid to ask your teacher or even ask for help on here as you have done already.
