Thank you all, my morose malingering of subject selections have finally been nullified, I am not repeating Literature.

Good, a score of 36 is still good for a year 11 student. You have an easy chance of 97+ since you seem pretty dedicated.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'm doing chem, physics, methods, further and English. I think I should repeat lit.

Juggling 6 subjects would be really tough.. since you're doing English, work hard in it and make sure you get higher than 36 for that, and it's guaranteed to be in your top 4. Having a 36 in your bottom two will make hardly any difference to your ATAR, unless you're trying to get somewhere near a 99.95.
Completley agree with this. You made the right choice imo :D

Ehhh... I think I'm in a similar boat to tarek; I did Lit 3/4 in 2010 and only got a 38. I feel that i could have gotten slightly higher if I had just put in a tad bit more effort in the exams (I felt burnt out for about a term beforehand and couldn't find the motivation).

Since this is my English component (not doing any other English this year), should I repeat the subject, in which case i will have to drop another from my list? Or should i focus on my remaining subjects (Maths and Sciences are my strengths) and hopefully try get 50 in MM? ATAR aim: 98+

(P.S. Tarek, sorry if I should be asking this in another thread! Should I? It just seems like we're in a similar situation...)

Tough situation. A few questions:

What do you honestly think you're going to get if you repeat it this year? How are you going to prevent yourself from burning out again?

Also don't underestimate the difficulty in getting a 50.. especially for a subject like Methods where competition is fierce. Have a play around with the ATAR calculator too. Good luck! ;)

Readinya we have something in common; the fact that we are both contemplating if we should repeat lit. The only difference is I am doing units 3/4 English this year, and considering you desire a 98+ atar you'll need a couple of 48+ subjects. If I concentrated more in lit and read the texts more than once a 40+ is not beyond me, but I've decided to concentrate on English this year. Hard choice!!

How good are you at Jap?

Woah, I forgot about this thread. Well, I've decided: I'm sticking with the Lit score I got (Thinking about it, I think it's pretty good; I don't think I'd have the motivation to do another year of Lit). So i'm doing two maths, two sciences and one language this year - no English, YEAH!

In terms of Japanese, i did think about dropping it a few weeks ago, but then i realised that i should stick through with it. Although i dread the oral exam, and my Jap skill is only meh-meh, i thought to myself:
- If i drop Jap, what else should i pick up? I definitely will not pick up English or Lit (the english teachers at my school suck)
- I'm dropping Jap only because i'm scared of my performance. But in life, i've got to face things i don't like; why not start practising now?
- I feel like i have an obligation to go through this with my friends in the class - with only 8 people in the class, it's a nice environment.

So yeah. I'm not repeating Lit.

Thanks for the support!
