Detailed Studies scaling?
« on: June 17, 2011, 10:43:51 am »
Hey I did relativity this year and thought some of the questions were pretty whack, I'm not sure about the other detailed studies but from what I've read here relativity really was a beast.

So anyway, if the average score for relativity is say, 14/24, and the average for structures is 18/24, do the examiners move these scores around and scale relativity (in this case) up?

It just doesn't seem completely fair if one detailed study is done more poorly than the other.

I don't think they do, instead they attempt to make each detailed study equally hard, but obviously they never succeed.

Don't worry - A lot of people under-performed in their respective detailed studies (especially at my school).

However, I heard that Structures and Materials was very simple. I find that somewhat unfair...

Especially considering around 85 percent of students did Structures and Materials. If it's easier it just immediately puts those that didn't do it at the bottom :(

I did it, I didn't find it 'very simple'. And neither did most people at my school.

I remember being told by an assistant examiner that they do not scale according to detailed studies. Sorry fellas :(

Apparently, one of the teachers at our school did all three of the detailed studies and said that Structures and Materials was easily the least difficult.

- I don't think he meant it to be "very simple," but easier relative the other two detailed studies. To be completely honest, I find the system in physics of "choosing your own detailed study" to be somewhat silly... considering VCE is meant to be a ranking between students...
