Dropping out of a distance edu subject? (IS)

Hi,

I am a year 12 student and I would like your opinion.

I've always had an interest for international relations and the world, I enrolled for International Studies 3&4 through the DECV. It's my 6th subject.

I have found it a bit demanding actually, and I received my first SAC back today, 21 / 100.

I am doing 5 subjects this year and did 1 last year in year 11.

This year: English, History (Revolutions), Legal Studies, Psychology, International Studies.
Last year: I.T. Applications

I am getting good on all of my SAC's except for IS. I think I would be better off without it as I could focus all of my time on my other subjects that I'm good at.

I am thinking of dropping it as it's my worst subject. I've done my best and got 21/100 on my first SAC (21%).

Thoughts?  

EDIT: I don't want to be a lawyer or a doctor or anything, entrance requirements for Bachelor of I.T. at La Trobe is English 3&4 as well as 65+ atar (guaranteed entry).

I'm not even sure you CAN drop it...
Don't worry though, I'm in the exact same boat as you. Stupidly I though doing art by DECV would be a good idea, to keep my options open for visual arts next year.
Biggest mistake of my life. I hate it, and haven't sent my teacher anything since week 5, and now I'm scared to check my e-mails... I've no motivation whatsoever, and I can't seem to bring myself to do anything.
Anyway, personally I'm keeping it because even if I get a 30, it will still give me 3 points towards my aggregate.
If you aren't aiming for a really high ATAR, then it probably won't matter. Although, I'd stay stick it out. Who knows? You might find that you actually enjoy Unit 4... and that little bit it adds to your ATAR can't hurt, no matter how bad the end result is.

Now, to stop procrastinating and actually write my DECV Art essay... =.=

what sac was it? the first or second one? globalisation or global conflicts?
you can still get through such a subject even if you have not done so well on one sac...

I was doing distance for philosophy and I decided to drop it, and I'm pretty sure I dropped on the last day you are 'allowed' to drop any subject-this monday. However, it is true that if you don't do any work etc then they will probably kick you out eventually (they certainly put a lot of emphasis on that in their info stuff at the start of year)...so maybe that's the option to take if you decide to discontinue in IS!

How much work is distance education?

I thought the teachers were pretty lenient with homework/SACs etc.

they're pretty lenient, and it's not that much work. It depends on how motivated you actually can be (E.g. When i started doing it via decv this year, i was motivated, now i cant be bothered doing the work anymore).

I do Specialist via Distance and I was so unmotivated so I didn't do any work for about 10 weeks. I eventually received a notice that the work had to be in on a particular date so get a pass. I had to smash out 10 weeks of week in a week. Wasn't too bad.

If its causing you that much trouble, why bother with it? Just drop it.

It isnt a prereq for anything really.

You can still learn about international things without doing it as a subject

That said if you like it and want to stick with it, it's probably best to pull your socks up. VCE isn't the best time to learn something out of interest or leisure though considering the focus on working so hard.

It really is in the end, up to you.
