Timetable queries

Ok, so I've enrolled at ANU. I have three questions about my timetable:

1) For some subjects, there are several lettered lectures and tutorials. For instance, for intro linguistics (LING1101), there are:
Tutorials A, B, C, D, E, F
Lectures A, B.
I'm guessing that I need only attend one "stream" of tutorials (only those marked "A", for example), but do I have to attend both lectures A and B?

2) For language subjects, there are differently-lettered classes, but no tutorials or lectures. For Indonesian 3A (INDN3002), there are:
Classes A, B, C
Do I need to attend A, B and C, or just one of these?

3) My first PhB subject, Advanced Studies 1 (ARTS1101) doesn't show up on my first semester timetable. What to do?

1). Go to one tutorial and both lectures (unless you can't be bothered, though I think linguistics would be very interesting and you will want to go to the lectures).

2). If there is more than one lettered class of the same letter (does that make sense? - I mean if, e.g. there are three "A" classes) then go to the classes of only one letter (e.g. all the Class A's). I think it is highly unlikely if there are no tutorials or lectures mentioned, that you will just go to one class. Particularly as it is a language, see the classes all as tutorials and so don't miss them. There should be about three or four of these tutorial like classes a week.

3). Um. I'm not sure seeing as I'm not a PhB student, but is that your independent research course?

One suggestion if you're kinda confused about your classes is log on to Wattle and check out all the classes listed up there. There might be course guides up which may have more information about lectures and tutorials, reading and which books to buy. :)
Can be very helpful concerning buying books.

Wrong! All I learnt from that course is that my friend has very comfortable shoulders to sleep on.

Is it better to have your tutes and lectures condensed into a few days or to spread them out? It would be good to have a few days to just chill out, but how stressful is it to bunch up your stuff?

Also, I thought the tutorial streams were organised like
Group 1, Group 2, Group 3...
not
Tutorial A, Tutorial B, Tutorial C...
as jejak mentioned...
Which one is the 'stream'?

There is no "stream", you just sign up for one tutorial per subject.

As for bunching up your subjects, well, it depends on you. Most people try to condense things so that they have days off.

Hmmm, I have an unavoidable clash with Chinese Tute A
There are 3 groups, the first one is at Noon, but I also have PHYS2020 at noon, the second is at 1pm, but I have MATH2405 then, and the third is at 2pm, but I have physics labs going from 2pm to 5pm :/

In the case of a direct clash like this, what usually happens? :/

Not sure what "usually happens", but... do you mean that within Chinese Tute A, there are 3 groups that clash? If so, would it be possible to transfer to a differently-lettered Chinese tute entirely (eg Chinese Tute B)? Course convenors, in my experience, are happy to do this kind of thing if you have a clash - the linguistics convenor did this for me a couple of hours ago.

If this is not the case, you might have to make do with course recordings and lecture notes etc for physics or maths lectures. My philosophy lecturer mentioned that if a student can't attend, the convenor should be notified, and that "consideration" can then be given to that student. Whether that means easier grading or what, I don't know, but the same might apply for science lectures.

I'm pretty sure you need to go to physics labs tho.... ;)

Basically, just email the convenors for each course and explain the problem. As I've said, in my experience, they've been very helpful. Sorry if I haven't been, haha :D7

edit: Thanks Rietie for timetable help. All sorted now!

thanks jejak! I guess I'll have a talk with the lecturers then.

For Chinese there are 3 tutes per week I must attend, A B and C. Each of these have 3 group timeslots. For B and C there are no clashes but for A all timeslots are unavailable.

Hah. You don't need to go to lectures, you know. I'd recommend booking it over the clash with MATH2405 - you can get on just fine with the notes for that course, seeing as in the lectures all Dayal does is read straight from them anyway.
