Well, phpBB has a CAPTCHA (try signing out and then go to the register page), but it's been broken.
If we're going to use phpBB for now, stronger anti-spam measures are needed.

Plus, the spam bots would target General Discussion, or something. It wouldn't have targeted the small VCE section.
