Interpolation and Extrapolation

Can someone please explain this to me. I honestly don't know what it means.

Just did the 2006 Neap Exam 2 and got a question wrong about it and in the end got a less than satisfactory score. Really disappointing after getting 59/60 on the 2006 Heffernan Exam 2.

Thanks a lot to whoever can help.

Interpolation is examining and predicting the relationship between variables within the given data.

Extrapolation is examining and predicting the relationship between variables by extending beyond the data given.

Oh, that makes a hell of a lot of sense, and explains everything I've had trouble with.

I was thinking that it had to do with whether the predictive answer you receive is within the range (max-min) of the dependent values of the given data.

Thanks a lot :)
