A friend of mine is interested in knowing the different pathways that can lead to Medicine.

What Universities, apart from Monash accept undergraduates for Medicine? And, what about post-graduates? What courses would be appropriate to be considered if one was looking for a career pathway in Medicine as a post-graduate before under-taking it (for example biomed)? What is the best pathway?

I would always consider TAFE courses, or other courses which link directly to the type of course you are considering to study. For example, my friend wants to study Medicine, however, her course requires Chemistry at VCE level. Unfortunately, she didn't study it. :) Now she plans to do TAFE and transfer after 6 months. A very feasible option in my opinion. :)

There are a mulititude of options available for gaing entry into medicine, i'd advise your friend to do their own research, starting with the FAQ/guides at www.medstudentsonline.com

I don't think "transfer" is the correct term. As your friend is completing a VCE subject, they will be applying as a normal undergraduate student, competing with all the current school leavers at the time of their application.

Here are the possibilities I know of:

1. Get into undergrad medicine straight out of high school.

2. Enroll in Biomedicine/Nursing/General Science, take GAMSAT, get into graduate medicine.

3. Enroll in a sciency TAFE course, then enroll in Biomedicine/Nursing/General Science course at a university, then take GAMSAT, get into graduate medicine.

4. Re-do year 12, take the UMAT again, get into undergrad medicine.
