Economics in Soccer!!!

At the moment in the A-League there is a very BIG problem. The imports (mostly from Brazil) have been of such a low quality and fitness that many of them have been sent home even before the end of the season. This has occurred due to clubs having to sign players after watching DVD's of them. Yep DVD's!

So what do we do in a situation like this?
There has been a suggestion that the best way to increase the quality of imports is for the FFA(Football's governing body in Australia) to assign scouts across the world to recommend players to ALL the clubs.

This would severely limit the ability of clubs to be independant and would take away the emphasis on clubs of being self-sufficient and would lead to greater centralisation.
So what do you guys think? Would this system lead to the best recommended players going to the club that has the most prestige? (A salary cap is in place)

Does this centralisation of scouting have a negative effect on the overall league? Should it be allowed? Should the clubs be able to scout around the world as they please?

Yes.

If the clubs are accepting players from DVDs alone, that is pretty stupid of them (although I'm not particularly aware of all the circumstances).

I am actually pretty pleases with how the A-League is now.

It will add flavour if clubs scout the world for fresh talent.

Doesnt seem like a bad idea in that it looks to improve the standard of the competition overall, but you'd think the clubs would also have some input in which players they want to recruit.
Some snippets of what goes on in IRC:

Hmm.. interesting, his book well-known book, The Wealth of Nations, was published in 1776, but I was originally referring to the Declaration of Independence in the American Revolution, so this year is actually doubly-good!
