INTERNET CONNECTION PROBLEMS

Hey guys
I'm having internet problems and have tried everything I can to fix it.
Th internet browsers (internet explorer 9, mozilla, google chrome & safari) all dont work and keep saying 'resolving host' at the bottom instead of actually loading with the green dots. But my msn still works - sometimes VN works but going on a new site at the same time won't.
I have deleted my browsing history and cookies, shutted down and restarted the computer several times, but the problems still there.
When I rang them they told me to go on my modem's site and disconnect the modem and connect it again online. That works, but after a few minutes it goes all retarded again so I keep having to disconnect it and reconnect it :(
I have a Bigpond Elite Wireless Modem btw.
The only thing that does work permanently is reformatting my computer (last time). But I don't want to reformat again. Does anyone else have the same problems or have any other ideas?

You've most likely installed a program which is messing with your connection settings.

You got any p2p programs recently installed such as uTorrent, or Limewire?

Truetears the advice on that link worked for the first few minutes but then the internet wrecked again.
Bomb, does DVD shrink or Winzip count? Wats p2p programs

And also, what happens if you reformat a laptop and it doesn't fully reformat/load. Sent it to a computer person and he sed the hardrive wasn't broken when he put it in his computer, but didn't when he put in ours. :O

A p2p program lets you transfer files directly from others' computers...but if you don't know what it is, you probably don't have it.
What other programs have you installed since reformatting?

Your harddrive is fine lol. It seems like a modem or connection settings problem. Hard-reset your modem/router and try again. Do you live in a remote area where internet connection is choppy?

One more thing, is your modem 2WIRE brand?

lol the hard drive thing was referring to another computer, but it's fixed now.
Nah the modem isn't 2wire brand. I live in a pretty remote area but the internet works on the now-fixed computer but not on the other computer. I think this whole thing is a "DNS problem"... but how exactly do i fix this?

Are you on Win XP?

Try this:

Click start menu -> Then run -> type in "cmd" without the quotes
Then in the CMD window type:

"C:WINDOWS>ipconfig /flushdns" again without the quotes

and it should say:

Windows IP Configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

(You need to be admin for it to work)

Then do the same thing, but this time type "renew" instead of "flushdns"
