Can i just randomly say.

Some people believes ( and i do not ) that IQ is almost equivalent to Umat score.

Just to "prove" that IQ does NOT = Atar.

lemme just say
I know someone who scored under 30 percentile on the umat and got an enter of 99.5 ish ( 2 or 3 years ago)
and someone who scored 40 percentile ish on the umat and got an enter of 96 ( that was last year )

2009 : Physical Education
2010  ATAR : 91.45 , Bio , Chem , Methods , Psychology , English
Completed VCE at the age of 16.
2011 : Bachelor of pharmacy
2012 : Hopefully med? " crosses fingers"

I don't get it. So your saying that the UMAT is not a good indicator of IQ. Then saying that people who did poorly on UMAT do have a low IQ but they can still do well in school.

So is Umat a good or bar indicator of IQ then?

IQ ≠ ATAR
IQ = GAT

The way which IQ is tested is totally different to what GAT tests though. Anything which has an essay and language component is unlikely to correlate well with IQ. That's not to say those who do well on GAT aren't 'smart', but they're testing totally different types of intelligence. From how I see it, there's multiple forms of intelligence and IQ only tests one of those really...

EDIT: Simple example, autistic kids. Most are going to gun any IQ test but do terrible at any language-based test.

However, autism is associated with a form of mental retardation and many really do struggle with parts of the test and so have on average quite a low IQ (lower then average person), but can be considered geniuses with other parts 'booksmart' with maths/science, struggling horribly with anything else.
it really varies, haha, sorry to add this in, just wanted to make a note ><

But this really does show how someone who is considered a genius in their field, can actually have a really low IQ. So does that make them stupid? No, it just makes the test itself stupid for that person...

Oh really? I've just always heard that they're good at those kinds of tests involving pattern recognition and such. Maybe just a stereotype. Or is there more than just those sorts of questions in a real IQ test?

I've never done a real IQ test, but im pretty sure there is worded/verbal questions that involve one to interpret the question through the way its wrote, so needing a good use of language/interpretation of words ability (if that makes sense), there could be some autistic kids that smash the pattern recognition as well as the ones with numbers, and then suffer with everything else.. perhaps someone whose done a real iq test can clarify?
