Annoying Search Timeout

I understand why there would be a post timeout - can't post within 20 secs of a previous post - obviously for spam reasons.

But why is there a search timeout - I was searching for something, it returned no results, modified my search, and I got a 20 sec timeout, what is the point in this?

It stops people from spamming search to make the site slower probably.

Yes, sometimes when I'm searching for something and click search and then realize that I'm searching in the section rather than the whole forum, I have to wait lol. Does the time delay stack if you were to try to search during your 'refractory period'?

Just use google to search and add the atarnotes thing at the end, or just the word atarnotes on the end, much quicker and most of the time comes up with what you are looking for on here.

Is probably better overall thanks to indexing.

Because you can write an easy to exploit script that can DDOS ATARnotes via the search bar?

You're right, it's probably not too hard to even do it within the browser with a bit of javascript, but the thing is, would a DDOS on the search have much effect on the site, if it's just from one computer? I doubt anyone would co-ordinate a DDOS on AN.

I reduced the time a bit. We do have Google search incorporated into the search bar. And yes the timeout is for that reason.

You'd be surprised. Very, very surprised. If I was bored enough and this was 2007 I probably would try for lulz.
