Encountering Conflict : need miscommunication examples

For a prompt such as "encounters with conflict arise from miscommunication", what examples out of history or current affairs could be used in an expository or persuasive piece? I'm pretty stuck for ideas, so thanks for any help in advance.

If you're willing to define miscommunication as a lack of communication (as opposed to simply misunderstanding), then any war where peace was eventually created through diplomacy probably works.

Otherwise, consider political leaders and the people around them.  Historically speaking, when there is misunderstanding or a lack of understanding between the two parties, tensiosn invariably arise, sometimes to the point of revolution.  See Marie Antoinette (let them eat cake!  <-complete ignorance of France's plights) or even Kevin Rudd (being a control freak and apparently not letting others have their say).  There are almost definitely better examples out there, but the theme should help get you started.

The colonizations would be a good one to talk about. You can also mention the speech given out by President Keating in the 1990s (now known as the Redfern address). More specifically on how he acknowledges that it was ‘our ignorance and our prejudice’ ( as a result of the lack of written records and land titles kept by the Aborigines) that allowed false truths and beliefs to be created and racial injustices to occur; the Stolen Generation and the attempts to destroy aboriginal culture as cases in point.

Also, i think it would be good to talk about personal/internal conflict and how it can be the result of lack of understanding/lack of or inadequate communication. If you do Rugmaker, you can mention how Najaf is constantly afraid that the Australian immigration authorities are fed misinformation about him, thus reducing his chances of entering the country which in turn, leads him to doubt and question himself on whether he has chosen the right decision (leaving his family to come to Australia etc). You can further extend this with Salinger's Catcher in the Rhye, on how young adults like Holden suffer horrid consequences such as disillusions and mental breakdowns as a result of their inability to conform to what they perceive as blatant mis-feeding of values and mores from an overly callous and materialistic society.
