Management functions refer to the specialised areas or departments in an organisation. Within each function, managers use the roles of planning, organising, leading and controlling to achieve organisational goals.

Operations Function – Factory floor, manufacturing, processes
Human Resource Function – Recruitment, selection, hiring, firing
Finance Function – Record keeping, profit and loss statement, budgeting
Marketing Function – Sales, advertising, market research, customer satisfaction
Research and Development Function – Software, technology

Note that this is what a management function is, and a management role is POLC. Not interchangeable.
