Consequential Marking

Say if you're doing a question with 3 parts
i.e. i), ii) and iii)
and they're all related

what happens if you make a silly mistake in ii)
and you use this wrong answer for iii), but with the correct method

do you lose marks for both parts for not ending up with the right answer or just ii)

Greatness

I think you wouldnt get the answer mark for ii) but you would get the method mark for iii)

As swarley has said, you would get the mark for doing it the right way (the method mark) but you would not get the answe mark since you did not get the right answer.
For a 2 mark question, with 1 method mark and 1 answer mark, you would get 1/3. e.g find the gradient at x=1, method mark is finding the derivative, answer mark would be for the actual gradient.
For a 3 mark question with 2 method marks and 1 answer mark then you would get 2/3. e.g. solvign differntial equation, 1 method mark for using calculus, another method mark for rearranging and find c e.t.c, answer markk for the actual correct equation.
For a 3 mark question with 1 method mark and 2 answer marks you would get 1/3. e..g. solvign trig equations, 1st answer mark for the first solution, second answer mark for the rest (you wouldn't get either of these if you got the answers wrong, but 1 mark for the method)

EDIT: added detail.

Hey I'm just wondering as well, do you know if you lose the method mark for stupid mistakes? e.g writing 4 instead of 9 or copying down a negative rather than a positive sign

I think it will depend on wether it is in the exact line that the method mark is given for or wether it is just in the "other" working out, although you are still using the right method. I'm not too sure though, don't hold me to this one.

Remember that with consequentials, you can never get 100% by making a mistake

Consequentials - according to what I've been told, work something similar to this
Say there's a question with part a) and b)

If you make a mistake in part a) and you use that answer correctly to complete part b), doing everything in part b) right,
- You will lose marks in part a) - you will lose the answer mark (definitely) and possibly method marks depending on how you went wrong
- You will get full marks, no marks lost, for part b)

If you correctly answer part a) and you make a transcription error to part b) - you copy it wrong, but you do everything in part b) right,
- You will get full marks for part a)
- You will lose an answer mark for b) but unless you made a method error, you shouldn't lose any method marks

Consequentials only apply to something you've worked out,
If you had to interpret the information they have given you twice and you interpret it wrongly both times, you will lose 2 sets of marks
- Once there was a question with a Hyperbola - restricted domain - I was asked to find the derivative - I lost a mark for not restricting and then I was asked to graph the Hyperbola and obviously I didn't restrict it here either, and I lost marks again - technically 1 mistake (overlooked the restriction) - but lost 2 sets of marks
