Hey guys

Just putting together my resume to start applying for jobs, so I was just wondering whether teachers are considered an appropriate referee (just 1).

Yeh, I think so? I put two teachers down on my resume and I got an job interview tomorrow. I gave their names and email addresses with a few comments from them. I presume most school leavers would generally give teachers as referees.

With referees, do we have to go up to the teachers and ask them before putting them down? My friend said she just put down the names of the career advisers on hers I'm not so sure about that though.

I would advise telling them, so they won't be surprised if they are contacted by potential employers.

This works in your favour because your teacher may have thought of a...er...pre-composed answer to the employers questions. i.e. the way they are going to 'talk you up'

The worst that can happen is they say no, and you never have to see them again. Give it a go :P
