Older Paper Differences? (Pre 2008)

Are there any major differences between the older and newer exams? I've looked over the study guide, but most of the changes seem quite minor (didnt really read it thoroughly though)

Specifically wondering if its just me or whether there are actually more questions with predicting direction of inducing current/magnetic fields in the older papers than there are in the later ones.

I'd probably have a go at the VCAA physics exams paper from 2005 onwards.

There aren't that many exams to do that are within the current study design anyway, so you may find yourself finishing them before the next two weeks.

Personally, I have all the vcaa physics exams from '05 printed, ready to do :)
2010: Systems Engineering 44

2011: Specialist Mathematics 37 | Mathematical Methods (CAS) 43 | Physics 39 | Chemistry 42 | English 41

ATAR: 98.50

2012: Eng/Law @ Monash

The obvious difference I would say would be the detailed studies. Pre 2007 (I think it was 2007) is short answer. This results in the type of questions asked for the detailed studies being quite different.

Whether or not the choice of short-answer vs. multiple choice affects the how the other sections were written, I don't know. I didn't notice anything major, so any change is minor.

Personally, all the VCAA exams seem pretty similar to me. (actually goes for other companies, they all have their distinct style and it doesn't seem to change that much).

Have you noticed that there are alot of the direction questions? i.e. for current with magnet going through coil
Kinda worrying me cause I havent seen that many in the 08-10 exams....and still not 100% sure how to do them

Really? I came across quite a few direction questions, I've been using the right hand rules a fair bit.
I just did Insight 2011 and that kept asking for directions (no pun intended).

The most common one is something to do with Lenz's law and how it flips. VCAA has been tending towards drawing the magnetic field, I guess that incorporates direction. I've seen a lot of the exams ask for direction in a multiple choice style.

There were also those compass needle questions. You'd think they'd have enough insight to know read a compass.

Edit:
On how to do these direction questions, I just stick with the right hand grip rule, right hand slap rule and Lenz's law (if talking about current/emf/flux that has been induced) and that's gotten me through pretty much all of those questions.

Nah not 100% :P

I've been fluctuating between something like 90% and 98% recently.
