1) is a VNTR a minisatellite, microsatellite or both, cant find a definitive answer anywhere!!!! Wiki says it include both, hendersons dictionary days mini only, and other sources are mixed as well ( or just vntr :D) thanks

From what I remember VNTR are minisatellite only and microsatellite is usually STR.

Yeah I agree with Base. One example of a minisatellite is the VNTR as it has a repeat sequence greater than five bases. Microsatellites or STRs have a repeat sequence of two to five bases.

No, I do believe the DNA sequence repeats of microsatellites are of 2-5 bases. Well according to my notes anyway.

I wouldn't listen to me, I just get whatever Dawn Gleeson says.  My biology teacher didn't even tell us what a VNTR meant and I never understood what the difference between micro and minisatellites were (until this year).  So I wouldn't be FRETTING about it...

liuetenant - in the off chance you do come online before your exam: the difference is just the number of bases in the repeat.  So for microsatellites (STR - short tandem repeats), that is like 2-5 bases (by popular demand above) and then for minisatellites, there are more than 5 bases in the repeated sequence (VNTR)
