Depression / Schiz / Gambling

I don't know about those doing Schiz or Gambling, but for MD we had to talk about a strength and limitation of using CBT for depression - something we had never learned about at all, we did learn about CBT and how it was used, but never evaluated its effectiveness.

Was wondering whether they had questions like this for Schiz / Gambling, questions that weren't something you covered during class/study? Because it seems a little unfair if only people doing depression had a question like that..

well I done schizo and personally found the first q's to be totally retarded. Basically asked us why did the doc say he didnt have schizo.

the last question asked of CBT and remediation i think it was, and asked for a difference

I had absolutely no idea what cognitive remediation was... I had come across it in my notes but didn't study it :o
It was the only question I couldn't answer... but I do agree, the Schizophrenia questions were retarded.

Yeah we had the same first question for depression, I just went over 2 symptoms required for diagnosis that weren't met, hoping that I got that right :D

@ssNake; yeah MD would really challenge weaker students, I don't know about the other topics, but the 3 questions for MD were completely different to ANY question I had done on it before - I didn't find the first 2 that challenging, the first one was strange in that I had never seen it before, the 2nd one was really specific, I am surprised they would ask about SSRI instead of a biological factor, or the role of neurotransmitters.....and CBT was just completely guessing, never would I predict such a question :(

For MD, I had -

Q1 (Reasons for not have depression) - I had 1. She did not show depressive symptoms for a minimum of 2 weeks. And 2. I said how she didn't show 4 of the possible option (such as suicidal thoughts, loss of energy, inability to concentrate, feelings of worthlessness, weight loss/gain, increased/decreased episodes of sleep).

For CBT, I said: Strength - CBT works under the assumption that depression is caused by negative thoughts. Health professionals can than assess what is causing these negative thoughts and resolve them.

Weakness - Doesn't identify biological elements of Major Depression. <- Guess :/

gambling was probably easiest out of all of them. First question was like the others. 2nd was dopamine.
3rd was schedule of reinforcement

i wrote like he wasnt engaging in illegal activity,
he wasnt chasing losses that he had
was not pre occupied with it at every stage in his life.
stuff like that, the things the DSM would check for
