people move out for many different reasons.

some examples include , university being a fair distance away ( I had to move interstate, thus "move out" ).

some people just dont want to live at home , but personally , if i think its a better option to stay at home if possible when studying.
I quite honestly cant see a point in moving out and paying your own rent if you don't literally "have to".

having said that , alot of kids have problems with their parents etc and i cant really dispute that , but i just think alot of kids make the stupid mistake of moving out when they can save $300 a week and stay home. = save alot more money for cars , , houses.. whatever their intentions for the future may be.

I have been out of home since I was 18.

The freedom is fucking amazing. I moved back home at one stage, took me a total of 3 weeks before I decided 'fuck this' and moved out again.

Personally, I'll move out when I secure a job.

The degree I'm pursuing is apparently pretty stressful so it would take a huge load off my back if my parents continue to support me. Besides, Melbourne Uni is less than 20 minutes away as I live right next to the city so moving out in order to decrease travel time isn't that important.
And although moving out and having complete FREEDOM sounds pretty cool on paper, I don't think I'm ready yet for so much responsibility such as paying rent/getting a job/taking care of myself etc.

But ultimately I love my family and they're pretty lenient so I kind of have a bit of freedom :P

I was talking with my mum yesterday that i heard stories of kids at 18 and 19 leaving home...

This is not unusual.

I told her that i might leave home till I'm 24 or 25 years old saving up to 50,000 dollars or more, and then I can go find a apartment and rent one and start my own life and start building up and investing money by working as a engineer.

Well, personally, that would probably be financially advantageous, but I can assure you that if you have any semblance of a social life and want a larger practical skill set, it would be advisable to leave home before that. Being coddled by your parents is great - trust me, I know -, but I am sick of it. I am ready to leave the comforts of my home and rough it a bit on a shoe string budget. Gallivant around Melbourne with a few trusty comrades trying to find the company of some wenches (I mean that in the most affectionate way, ladies) and drinking inferior wine to induce sickeningly stupendous nadirs of inebriation.

That and I want to further my education holistically about life outside of the academic arena. To be honest, I think I am not like most of the sorts that frequent this board; I am very motivated to be a balance of academic and practical, whereas I get the feeling that most here are very academically driven sorts. This is not bad, just different.

i think moving out really takes you to the next step of life (i couldn't think of ways to make that sound less douchey so bear with me) especially in the emotional sense. i guess you become more responsible and self-aware so i think it's best to be done when you're independent or feel like you're capable enough.

i'm 17 and i live alone because my mother is on a two-year-long business trip so technically i haven't moved out (in the conventional sense) yet and i admit, for the first few weeks it was hard for me to cope with the changes esp in year 12 etc. but once i got used to it, it was awesome and like Mao said the freedom is amazing (yeah, spent all night partying lol jokes i was in the library).

so personally speaking, even if you're financially ready, i think you should look more into intrinsic factors and other logistics (ie. do you know how to pay for the water bill? lol once they sent me a letter saying that they would cut off the hot water from my apartment because i didn't realize it wasn't automatic transaction straight for the bank and was totally freaking out).

anyway, i'm so tired and i don't know if this whole chunk of words make sense or not but yeah. hope i helped!

I think people undertaking university should save their money with a steady part time/ casual job, gradually saving until hopefully being able to move out by 24.
