Hi.

I have a pretty specific question...

For those who've done the psych 3 & 4 exam - do we need to know about hypnosis in regard to alcohol induced states (altered state of consciousness)?

Thanks.

I don't remember hypnosis being on the study design (or coming across an exam Q. based on it) but You will need to know all the ASC's in depth however, including the alcohol induced altered state of consciousness

Thanks for the reply

I was also wondering if anyone could tell me about the concept of "heightened awareness"...
* when does it occur?
* what are some examples?

Heightened awareness is when you become a lot more vigilant or aware of your surroundings, your movements or your sensations. Heightened awareness usually occurs in states where you've got Alpha brain waves (the waves which indicate high alertness) such as for example, Meditation.

Don't beta waves indicate a higher level of awareness than alpha waves? Wouldn't alpha waves be associated with hypnogogia and NREM stage 1?

I guess heightened awareness could also be experienced during the fight-flight response.
