Sorry, I only read about it just then and didn't see a thread about it in this board. :P

I don't think it's too bad of a decision actually - a 2.5 hour exam would give VCAA allowance to add in extended response questions and such to provide a better quality/more enjoyable exam.

Edit: I should have looked in the other vic education discussion boards.
No midyear exams in 2013 [link]
2012 will be the final year of VCE mid-year examinations

I don't think its a good idea, especially for things like BIO/Chem.

There is just far, far too much covered during the year to smush it in at the end. It'll essentially come down to who has the most memory or crammed the most, rather than understood the concepts the best.

I don't think it brought schools to a standstill but my campus was exclusively year 11/12 so maybe i didn't notice the impact as much but schools tend to find ways around it.

I agree. I think it'll just make some subjects that have such a wide content base very difficult. Also, I enjoyed the idea of a (somewhat) fresh slate for unit 4 after my unit 3 exams

Yeah, if anything this might force them to reduce how much content there is or to dumb down certain sections which i don't think is right for the sake of avoiding a midyear exam. Bio is a wonderful unit and i like the fact that it had a huge breadth to it.
