Year 11 3/4 subject selection

Alright, so I'm going into year 11 this year and I'm having a lot of trouble choosing my subjects.
At the moment I have:
1/2 English
1/2 French
1/2 International Studies
1/2 Mathematical Methods (CAS)
3/4 Legal Studies

3/4 Health & Human Development

The problem is, I'm not entirely sure if doing two 3/4s is a great idea, and I want to do Psychology as well. The underlined subjects are the ones I'm not too sure about. At the moment I'm thinking about doing 3/4 Psych and 3/4 Health, dropping Maths and switching to 1/2 Legal , but I'm not very confident with the idea of dropping Maths, as I want an ATAR over 97.

Thoughts anyone? Which subjects are worth doing, and is getting over 45 in two 3/4s in year 11 achievable?

If you are doing a science 3/4 subject. Its best to do this year and get it out of the way. As the vcaa is changing the exam structures. In which their will be no mid-years for subjects who previously had them. If you want to do psych i advise you to do it this year.

Yes it is achievable to get a 45 or 50 RAW in year 11 if doing 1 subject. But if do 2 subjects, you know that more effort is required then.

1/2 English
1/2 French
1/2 Methods
1/2 International Studies
3/4 Health&HD
3/4 Legal Studies

It seems that all  your subjects are irrelevant to science subjects, so doing legal 1/2 or 3/4 is the best combo(combining with your international studeis)

I'd recommend not dropping Methods as methods is a prerequisite subject for many Uni courses, but this of course depends on what course you're aiming to get into. Though it may seem like generic advice, its important to choose subjects your confident in and that you truly enjoy. If you choose subjects with this in mind, your more likely to enjoy doing the required work and hence more likely to get a better score. Personally, I found doing two 3/4s in year 11 not all that difficult and I got above 45 in both of them so I'm sure you can do the same!! :D
2010 - Environmental Science [48] - Mathematical Methods CAS [50]
2011 - English [:3] - Specialist Mathematics [50]- Latin [43] - Chemistry [46] - Literature [:3]
ATAR: 99.95

This. My sister dropped maths because she wasn't interested in it at the time and didn't think she needed it, but ended up wanting to study a coarse which had methods as a prerequisite. Unless you hate it or are 100% sure you won't need it for your desired uni course, I highly recommend doing some form of maths.

As stated above, keep methods. Stay with psyc as well (as mid-year exams will be in place this year), and maybe continue with 3/4 Health. Legal 1/2 as well then, but imo, International studies is quite interesting.

It is definately achieveable. I have a friend that did 3/4 Methods and Physics last year. She also duxed year 11 Chemistry. Dont ask what school she goes to. But, it is definately achieveable.

I did two year 3/4 subjects in year eleven and I went fine, even if you don't do great on one it doesn't really matter just do five in year 12 to replace it. It's actually good practice for year 12 so I recommend you do both.

What would you guys think of doing further and methods as 3/4s in year 11, and doing spec in year 12 if I am not quite happy with one of them, as only 2 count to too 4.

If I were you, I'd definitely select these subjects:

- English 1/2 (compulsory)
- Mathematical Methods (CAS) 1/2 (if you don't include this, you're ruling out a hell of a lot of pathways)
- French 1/2 (languages are great to keep if you're good at them)

As for the others, I guess it's just important you select subjects you enjoy, but also check various potential courses for prerequisites. Generally speaking, the other subjects you have discussed are not prerequisites for any courses, but they can help you out if you end up in the middle band:

- International Studies and Legal Studies can help out with a Law or Arts degree
- Human Health and Development and Psychology can help out with a Health Sciences degree

Further is fine but if you don't master well in your 1/2 methods or skip methods 1/2, then don't do methods3/4 as it will be very competitive which I was planning to do.
