Theres quite clear evidence its not a health risk, quite to the contrary, it can offer a number of positive health benefits (wikipedia has a decent summary of some of the studies). I've been a vegetarian for around 11 years now and i run and lift weights, its never impacted upon me.

Your body is obviously adaptable, its not as rigid as people might think. If you're low in iron, your body increases the production of a protein that soaks up iron for example.

Theres obvious health benefits in eating less red meat, same with a vegetarian diet overall.

As for finding food, i usually have no problem at all. Pretty much every eating establishment in Australia usually has at least one vegetarian item. In other countries it might be a lot harder but here i've been fine.

Really? Wikipedia?

Anyways, I agree with you on every single level, Except the use of Wikipedia.

Well, i've read a few of the studies but not everyone has access to journal databases or the ability to understand the articles fully without training. I think wikipedia is appropriate for a more general audience. Much more easy and accessible too but cheers.

You can edit the information? It all may not be fully correct? Some random can put random studies in pages, and then we'll all be confused.

Popular Wikipedia articles are reviewed and cross checked by moderators and they usually necessitate citing of good sources. I'd consider it far more accurate than the odd website floating around, which isn't a scientific publication

I agree on that point, however many schools and universities do not allow Wikipedia to be used as a form of reference

That's because they're trying to train students to reference properly. 90% of all scientific pages on wikipedia are just summaries of journal articles and/or textbooks on the topic and are entirely appropriate to use.

I understand that but i hope you do realise you're on a forum right :) ? I'm not going to spend a couple hours writing up a fully referenced paper when wikipedia provides a fine summary for the general audience here about the information i want to present.

I think on errors and bias, on the major articles on things you'd find in most encylopedias, wikipedia is on par, if not better with the media.  Ever watched british or american news? Or God forbid..press tv?

If you haven't go watch them for a while and come back to wikipedia. You'll appreciate the difference.

I've been a vegetarian for 17 years and I've never fainted from lack of meat...

Yes, I think if you tailor your diet to satisfy the requirements of protein etc. then there should be no need for fainting, you just need to be on top of the diet. However, it was meat that is full of densely-packed nutrients, that provided the catalyst for human evolution.
