Is there some creative or clever way to mention a tone change in the intro? Could anyone give me some examples?

Link it to a broader structure - such as the purpose of the article or the context in which it arose.

E.g. - Given the sensitive nature of the issue, [Author] begins with a controlled, balance tone, establishing a sense of empathy, then shifts to a more condemnatory tone in order to deprecate the position of [whoever].

You shouldn't feel obliged to include this in your introduction though - it is fine to discuss tonal shifts later if you want, without mention in the introduction.
