~~FAILING UNI!!!!

Hi everybody,
I’m currently doing a BSc degree (1st year) at a non-Go8 uni and I was just wondering whether any significant damage can arise to my future career propects if I fail a unit or 2. If I do fail a unit or 2 would it be worth repeating the subjects? If I repeat and get HDs, would this make up for the fail?
Or would they still count the bad mark?
Which mark do unis count and which mark will employers be looking at?
If you fail a unit is it just better to stop doing your course and start another one?

If you do this would the fail still appear on your transcript?

I want to study further postgrad in a go8 uni. Would failing a unit ruin my chances?
Do many people fail uni?
If so, what happens to them?
work at maccas your whole life....help so scared!

What future career prospects specifically?
Repeating and getting HDs is nice but what makes you think you'll get HDs if you're failing now?

Your academic transcript will record both of the marks afaik, so when you present it to employers they'll see that you failed it the first time and then repeated it and got HD/D/etc.

Failing a unit doesn't mean you should drop out or transfer, it's not uncommon in first year for people to feel as if they're going to fail / actually fail and then end up doing reasonably well over the course of the degree. Failing a single unit really means nothing with respect to your suitability to university etc. If you consistently fail over a few semesters, then it suggests it's not just a transition thing and the university knows this (this is why they don't kick you out if you fail once)

Doubtful, what specific option though?

If you had non academic factors that affected your ability to perform in your subjects, the uni will take that into account when enforcing deadlines, allocating assessment etc.

The tldr is really: failing is not fun but it won't ruin your career. Don't make a habit of it and recognize that you might need to adjust your study patterns etc. for next semester. Having a fail on your transcript in 3 years time is not the end of the world.
