I know that a context essay isn't as strict as a text response, so if we're writing an expository essay, can we use first person (like "we" and stuff)?

Sure can, depending on your angle it may fit the hybrid term more. If you're being persuasive etc
2011: Media [44 -> 42]
2012: English [43 -> 42], Revolutions [44 -> 45], Literature [41 -> 42], Chemistry [33 -> 37]

There are no technical rules saying you can't, but from consultations with high scoring students (45+), my teacher and tutors it is highly advisable for the most part not to use 'I', 'we', etc. because such statements tend to be generalisations that weaken your argument. For example, a sentence that goes something like 'we, as human beings, seek to...' may leave the examiner disagreeing with your statement. It is best to use phrases such as 'individuals' or 'one' if you can. So basically, best to avoid first person for the most part
