Reading more about the case, it seems that the jury completed misinterpreted the jury directions, and the foreman took the matter into his own hands, using his "personal experience" to help the other members reach a unanimous verdict.
The judgment is contradictory, convoluted and shows that the jury was clueless.

I agree and it's also interesting that this was one of the rare cases Apple won against Samsung. I wonder if a 'home court' bias had any effect on the decision. Apple had no success in Europe and Asia; even Australia (with the galaxy tab).

I'm not sure how the jury went through all 100 pages of judge instructions and the several hundred pages of case details in a matter of days. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but this case was nothing more than an American court with American jurors protecting an iconic American company against Koreans.
