In relation to The Crucible. 'Heroes often emerge from conflict' In terms of the play, I can easily link this prompt to several characters but I am struggling to link this prompt to other events in history or society..

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  :)

Think of people like Simpson and his donkey?
And like Martin Luther King etcetc

That's an excellent prompt!

John Simpson enlisted to fight in WWI for australia. He served in Gallipoli as a medic (not a fighter) and he used a donkey to help him carry the wounded from battle sites back to camp. Google Gallipoli and find pictures of where the fighting took place, it was steep and rocky and sandy, and just horrible conditions. He carried hundreds of wounded men, putting himself in danger at the same time. That's why I'd class him as a hero, as he could have worked like everyone else in conflict, and worried about his own safety, however he was brave and put the needs of others first.
He was eventually shot and died. It's an amazing story of courage and determination in the face of conflict

And another of my favorites
Martin Luther King became a key figure of the civil rights movement, where he'd lead the crowd and deliver his landmark speeches ("I have a dream")
So you could say he was a hero as he stood up and wasn't afraid for his voice to be heard during the conflict. He's inspired many to stand up for what's right and not let anything stop it. He was assassinated too.

What is it with the good people being shot (oo hello another essay topic...conflict breeds corruption ;))
Hehe I hope that makes it clearer!

Nelson Mandela. As he was imprisoned for 27 years he became well known by the south africans. As he was the president of South Africa he was successfully able to fight for the black rights and take justice...
