I was thinking through how the hell I am going to study for context when I am having problems with coming up with big ideas. And then I got an idea. If I pull out couple of main themes from the stories of growing up asians in australia, and write a paragraph or two paragraphs about it, would that help me produce a continuous and sustained piece?

All i do is write. I know the book, and its themes, and I relate it to different situations and write a piece how they both link. Then again, I write only creative, and so I have an intention, but it is not as explicitly stated as in a persuasive/expository

Could work. :--) You can then further apply the ideas you have taken from the text to other examples.
